A New

 Democratic

Deal

A Commentary and
Discussion Forum

Coming Soon:

NewDemocraticDeal.Beehiiv.com

A New Democratic Deal aspires to be a thoughtful, intelligent, well  researched, analytic, and pointed commentary on politics and society, focusing on nuts-and-bolts solutions to the most difficult political and governmental challenges facing Democrats, liberals, progressives, leftists, and moderate Republicans.

This is a forum where we listen, think, analyze, and propose specific actions to fix what's broken rather than weep and wail about Donald Trump or the 2024 election.

Why To Read These Reports

There are many commentaries on the web about what's so wrong about Trump's regime, his policies, and the outcomes of his impulses.

Here's what is different: We discuss specifics to answer Tolstoy's question:

"What, then, must we do?"

If you think the Democratic-Liberal-Progressive side needs a New Democratic Deal, then please join the discussion. We can do better than in 2021-2024.

For example:
  • Donald Trump and his allies will try to subvert the 2026 midterm elections and might even try to stay in the White House after January 20, 2029. Quit wringing your hands over that. See the reports telling how to stop him.

  • The rich continue to get richer. We discuss nuts-and-bolts steps to make this country an economic democracy again. Here's one: remove the cap on Social Security tax and tax passive income as well as wages. This not only helps cure the Social Security shortfall, but it also redistributes a bit of the wealth from the richest to all of us in a way that is politically achievable.
  • Joe Biden, with help from the Democratic National Committee, sabotaged the 2024 Democratic primaries for other candidates. We'll discuss simple fixes to prevent that from ever happening again.
  • If you're ever asked, "Why do MAGAs vote against their own interests – and how do we persuade them to wake up?" – then please subscribe. We'll discuss how to bring them to support the New Democratic Deal.
  • Joe Biden's immigration and border policies were warm-hearted, kind, and humanitarian... and an avoidable political disaster. The fix was, and still is, obvious to me.

  • If not for two Biden-Harris decisions that probably seemed sensible at the time, six swing states could have all been Blue. Blaming no one, we discuss what to do the next time around.

  • On spiraling healthcare costs, there are two ways out: deny care or make the difficult transition to a universal healthcare system. We'll go over which successful universal healthcare systems would fit us best.

  • The bad news: It's the national debt, stupid! Hard choices lay ahead. I'll show you my proposed solutions, and then you show me yours.

This forum works this way: I post a commentary and seek critiques and other ideas. From that dialogue, maybe together, we can come up with answers and concrete steps forward.

A New Democratic Deal proposes solutions that are well-researched, analytic, and hopefully intelligent, thoughtful, and achievable. We seek the same from you – especially ideas that are different. All potentially useful points of view are welcome (Yes, conservative voices, too).

Take this opportunity to subscribe before the price goes up. Join the discussion on specific policy and legislative steps to turn our government into a civilized democratic republic again – one that represents all the people, not just the rich.

Help to collectively define what is needed, both politically and in the act of governing, to win the next two elections and, more important, to earn the job of governing.
